To be pedantic it is not crashing, it is "only" failing...

Is there anything in xl dmesg which may correspond to this, which I
think comes from 

xl in 4.1.x is a bit "tech preview" but something as simple as what you
are doing ought to work.

What does xl info say? chris' question about Vt-d support is a good one.
