If you like the looks of MogileFS, I recommend having a look at 
GlusterFS.  Gluster is more of a real filesystem (POSIX and such) but 
does the some replication and auto-consistency things that may be of 
interest.  It's then all exposed to clients via FUSE, no special APIs 
required.
