I have asked the related issue on xen-users list (https://lists.xenproject.org/archives/html/xen-users/2017-05/msg00090.html), it has detail on hangs, if you want more detail, I can reproduce the problem and send you more info. HyperPlatform and SimpleVisor can work well inside VMware virtual machine, so I think Xen or KVM should also support this.
