Re: [Xen-API] Is XenServer 6.2 as Broken as it Seems?

Hi Bob,

Thanks very much for your input.

Up to now, I have never had to use any additional drivers for the
onboard (SATA in AHCI mode) storage controller, so I assume the driver
is built into the kernel (as a module).

It appears the ahci module is the first one loaded which sounds like you
are right about storage possibly being the issue. It panics immediately
after the initrd (or whatever) executes.

I'll try 'safe' again (which does indeed not show the splash graphics)
to see if I can gain any further clues.

Thanks,

G

2) I couldn't install any updates (which sounded important). In
the latest (6.2 Hotfix 3) XenCenter showed the two servers
grayed-out. So I installed the Hotfixes 1, 2 and 4 via the command
line as I have done on previous versions of XenServer and
rebooted...and lost contact with the servers. They wouldn't boot
up again...stuck on the graphical progress screen with no way to
ESCape out.

At the boot prompt, edit the boot command line to remove "splash" or
boot "safe" (I think) to boot without the graphical splash screen -
that will hopefully show you the error which might get you passed the
problem.

I assume the problem is that hotfix 4 included a new kernel but you
don't have the driver disk that you need as well? All kernel
hotfixes that you install must also be accompanied by the appropriate
drivers as they are specific to the kernel version (even if the ABI
hasn't changed)
