You could start by choosing a documentation format that everyone knows. That's why the wiki was useful. Given that you didn't, you could give basic instructions on how to use it. I know how to check out Git code. I don't know Sphinx, or how to build a Sphinx site in order to check that my changes are correct. I think you've doomed this to never getting updated by the community.
