Thanks! I'll check that out.
Up to this point I've always just done in-place
upgrades of everything (been running Xen PV domu's for
about 7 years now) and have just followed with that old
way because it generally just worked (with a few nuances.)

pvhgrub is new to me, but to understand the transition away from
pygrub, I found pvgrub2 documentation helpful (although some of it
is a bit dated):
