How important is the numeric X? If you are happy to do without it you could: disk = [ 'phy:/dev/users/debian.img,xvda,w', 'phy:/dev/users/debian.swapfs.swp,xvdb,w' ] And just update /etc/fstab to use the whole block device instead of the 'partition'. I think you should still be able to install a boot loader on xvda but if not you could add a small extra disk just for the boot loader and use xvdb and xvdc.
