  • Thread-topic: [Xen-users] can't start hvm/pvhvm on xen 4.4 or xen4.6

I tried a great number of things to get a HVM VM running.

I definitely had a incompatibility with the libusb or libusbx.

Eventually I upgraded to qemu-kvm-ev-2.6.0-28 (I was at qemu-kvm-1.5.3-126)

First yum installed
centos-release-qemu-ev

And then yum installed:
qemu-kvm-tools-ev-2.6.0-28.el7_3.9.1.x86_64
qemu-kvm-ev-2.6.0-28.el7_3.9.1.x86_64
qemu-kvm-common-ev-2.6.0-28.el7_3.9.1.x86_64
qemu-img-ev-2.6.0-28.el7_3.9.1.x86_64

Then the HVM VM started with no " libusb_free_ss_endpoint_companion_descriptor"
error.

But next, I could not get output on the serial console pty/tty. After trying
for a long time I decided HVMs were intended to use vncviewer, more than the
serial console for the console.

I decided this because using "vncviewer localhost :0" in X windows of the Xen
server was supposed to get me to the HVMs console

But I found out that X windows no longer worked on this system! Seems that the
updates I had done broke X windows (maybe it was the upgrade to kernel 4.9?)

Finally stumbled on how to start X windows using VNC as the display. VNC'd to X
windows from my windows laptop.
And then ran vncviewer localhost :0 from in that VNC session, and got connected
to the HVM's console and did a OS install!!

Im sure there was other ways to do all of this but that was my journey...

Probably your libusb is too old.
