Hello list, I faced with the following problem: when I try to start HVM guest (I want to install windows XP as one of the guests), the whole host machine resets - no logs, no errors, nothing - like someone just pressed _physical_ reset switch on the server after this: xm create /etc/xen/windows.cfg Using config file "/etc/xen/windows.cfg". Started domain xp-hvm (id=3) <- here reset happens :( Other DomU - linux guests) are fine, no problems observed. Server is the SuperMicro H8SGL with Opteron 6272 CPU (16 cores). Dom0 is set to use 2G RAM and 4 cores, balooning is switched off. Network interfaces sections in the Xen config is fully commented. this is xm info output: root@reiss:/etc/xen# xm info host : reiss release : 2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 version : #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 13:49:30 UTC 2012 machine : x86_64 nr_cpus : 16 nr_nodes : 1 cores_per_socket : 16 threads_per_core : 1 cpu_mhz : 2100 hw_caps : 178bf3ff:2fd3fbff:00000000:00001310:16982203:00000000:01c9bfff:00000000 virt_caps : hvm hvm_directio total_memory : 16350 free_memory : 10011 node_to_cpu : node0:0-15 node_to_memory : node0:10011 node_to_dma32_mem : node0:3515 max_node_id : 0 xen_major : 4 xen_minor : 0 xen_extra : .1 xen_caps : xen-3.0-x86_64 xen-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_32 hvm-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_64 xen_scheduler : credit xen_pagesize : 4096 platform_params : virt_start=0xffff800000000000 xen_changeset : unavailable xen_commandline : placeholder loglvl=all guest_loglvl=all com1=115200,8n1,0x3e8,5 console=com2 dom0_mem=2048M elevator=noop cc_compiler : gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-8) cc_compile_by : ultrotter cc_compile_domain : debian.org cc_compile_date : Sat Sep 8 19:15:46 UTC 2012 xend_config_format : 4 I followed this link to setup windows guest: http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_Beginners_Guide - its configuration is just copypasted and I just changed names of the files, which should be used for guest HDD and CD-ROM: cat windows.cfg kernel = "/usr/lib/xen-4.0/boot/hvmloader" builder='hvm' memory = 1024 vcpus=2 name = "xp-hvm" vif = ['bridge=xenbr0'] disk = [ 'phy:/dev/reiss-xenvg/xp-disk1,hda,w', 'file:/home/serj/en_xp_pro_sp2.iso,hdc:cdrom,r' ] acpi = 1 device_model = 'qemu-dm' boot="d" sdl=0 serial='pty' vnc=1 vnclisten="" vncpasswd="" I have the "clean" Debian 6 install, without any additional repositories.
