last idea I have:
fda = [ 'rw:/opt/xen/floppy' ]
fda = [ '/opt/xen/floppy,rw' ]
fda = [ '/opt/xen/floppy:rw' ]

all untested. I'd put most hope in the first version. qemu uses this syntax, so I was trying to put this into the config-file:
# qemu linux.img -fda fat:floppy:rw:/my_directory
