I use the same set up as Walter.  The configuration is complicated
enough that making a change in the interfaces file requires a restart,
restarting networking isn't enough.  Could be that I just don't know
the magic to make it happen without a restart.  Anyway, I have a
couple of servers with multiple interfaces, with each interface having
its own bridge entry which works very well.
