On CentOS/RHEL, you'd do this in /etc/inittab. I'm not sure about debian. (it's a tricky problem 'cause there are several different things that different kernels call the xen virtual console; so when I get this problem, the first thing I do is grep for 'Xen virtual console' in the DomU dmesg so I know what to run a getty on.) -- Luke S.
