  Mount the partition, then run:

    cd dev && MAKEDEV console
    cd dev && MAKEDEV generic
    cd dev && MAKEDEV null
    cd dev && MAKEDEV zero

  That should do the job.  Let me know if it does and I'll look
 at seeing if there is a bug somewhere ...
