How about creating a new /dev/hda3 > partition (inside the guest) using the new disk space, create a new pv > there, add that to the volume group? Recent versions of LVM should include the "pvresize" command which does exactly what you require. There are also long discussions on the LVM mailing list for how to achieve a PV resize effect on older systems where the pvresize command doesn't exist.
