If you search the archives, you'll find a few threads about this. In one, someone suggested that the only way to get access to the serial port is to use the xen0 and xenU kernels. You'll then be able to enable the serial port for dom0, and turn it off for domU. This worked for one guy, but hasn't for me - my serial port is still toast. It might work for you, so try it out.
