/dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0       1

Any more thoughts here?

I had the same warning message... 

turned out my kernel was compiled with EXT3 as a module.

Check the config file for your kernel, eg. cd to your kernel sources dir,

usually /usr/src/linux

type:> grep -in ext3 .config

if the result looks something like this...

2140:CONFIG_EXT3_FS=m

it means support for file system type EXT3 has been compiled as a module (m)

The root file system (/) must be mounted before any modules can be loaded,
so (/) will be mounted as ext2 even if it's ext3, because ext3 support is
not available until the module is loaded.

You need to reconfigure the kernel (eg. make xconfig), 
select (y) for EXT3 under "File systems" and then recompile.

Now "grep -in ext3 .config" should return something like this...

2135:CONFIG_EXT3_FS=y
