Hello ! I'm using the latest xen packages from http://packages.debianbase.de/sarge/amd64/xen3/ on debian sarge with the provided kernel linux-xen0-2.6_2.6.12+xen3.0.1-0tha6_amd64.deb (xen-linux-2.6.12.6-xen). I successfully installed that combo on a Tyan GT20 Server with an Athlon64 3000+ (Venice), 1GB RAM . Thats running fine, I made some debootstrapped filebased debian sarge systems with xen-tools - no problem. Thanks to Ralph Passgang for this nice compilation ! However this was only testing - My real machines are a twin of Supermicro servers (Equipped with mainboard X6DHR-TG (http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon800/E7520/X6DHR-TG.cfm). 2x XEON 3,2 EMT64 with 4 GB RAM and SATA RAID1 (HW-Raid aacraid). Chipset is Intel 7520 (Lindenhurst). These machines are normally running sarge (64bit) and kernel 2.6.8-11-em64t-p4-smp for one year without problems. I installed the same packages, created initrd and so on and tried to boot the system with Dom0 with xen-linux-2.6.12.6-xen. XEN loads and starts to boot up the kernel but then the kernel crashes. I connected a serial console and logged the output (see attachement). I played around with various xen and kernel parameters like acpi=off, noirqbalance, nosmp, nousb, noapic, apic=..... with no success. I thought of an ACPI related problem and updated system bios to latest bios from January 2006. Nothing helped. If I want to boot to my normal system after such a crash I've to power the machine off (not reboot !) and erase the BIOS PCI Tables (ESDT Tables) to get it up and running again. If I don't do this even the standard kernel crashes while initalising. I downloaded latest xenoppix and booted the system off the cd. This works ! It uses the 2 CPU's (plus the 2 HT CPU's), since it is 32-bit with no PAE extensions I can only use 3 GB of my physical RAM. Also the provided knoppixU DomU boots up fine. After 2 days of rebooting this system I've no more ideas. I can use the xen console to provide other information if needed. -- __________________________________________________ Ralf Schenk fon (02 41) 9 91 21-0 fax (02 41) 9 91 21-59 rs@xxxxxxxxxx Databay AG Hüttenstraße 7 D-52068 Aachen www.databay.de Sitz/Amtsgericht Aachen HRB:8437 USt-IdNr.: DE 210844202 Databay - einfach machen. _________________________________________________ Diese E-Mail und etwa angehängte Dateien enthalten vertrauliche Informationen und sind ausschließlich für den Adressaten bestimmt.
