You could e.g. install a Windows within a VMWare image using the now also free VMWare Server and later just use the player. The video performance will be much better. Sharing files between the two operating systems is no problem, you can access local disks from within your VM. They're presented to your Windows guest as network drives. For me, this works for months now. Mostly I am working in Linux on my Laptop. When I need e.g. Photoshop or some other Windows-only application, I just resume my Windows VM and start working with it.
