I had a similar problem this morning:
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:910: Error: suffix or operands
invalid for `mov'
{standard input}:911: Error: suffix or operands
invalid for `mov'
make[4]: *** [arch/xen/i386/kernel/process.o] Error 1
[snip]
I'm using debian testing, pristine kernel 2.6.11
acquired by doing mkpatches from xen's source dir.
I first relinked gcc to gcc-3.3 from 3.4 since I
thought that might have been the problem but the error
persisted. So it occured to me to check my version of
binutils. I was using Version: 2.16.1cvs20050902-1 so
I figured that since it's newer it might have certain
things that have changed, so I downgraded by doing a
apt-get -f --reinstall install binutils=2.16.1-2 (as
shown by a apt-cache show binutils | more ). After
the downgrading I reran the compilation command as per
http://wiki.blitzed.org/User:grifferz/Xen and it is
still compiling as I'm writing this.
I hope that this helps the others who might be having
this problem.
