---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: simon mark <dionysus1090092@xxxxxxxxx> Date: 2008/11/17 Subject: xen for fault tolerance on single server To: "xen-community@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" <xen-community@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> I'm quite interested in fault tolerence on single SMP server using Xen. Noting that I do not mean the process migration, but to split the memory and set of processors, as well as the hardwares and nics ,to multiple "identical " operating systems. You can imagine installing a cluster system on the SMP. Sounds like using Xen to substitute the expensive hardwares in NEC fault tolerant system. I understand we would never achieve the same fault tolerant level as in the system of NEC. However, this "identical OS" seems somewhat pragmatic for those small coporation with computing security demands. My problem is I really have no idea how to implement this purpose, since the hypervisor layer has much to do with domian 0. And if OS on this domain go crazy, other OS can not keep sane. I know we must have somebody in charge of the devices and this authority, from my opinion, can only entitle to one entity for the potential conflicts. Someone recommends me to consider the elder version of Xen because the hypervisor in it has less connections with the OS. But i do want more advices before i take any action. Any suggestion will be appreciated.
