You can use 240 until someone registers a real major number. Yes, it is trivial, the ramifications to init and userland may not be, we should offer both deprecating the the ttyS hack. If you want to be more complete for submission on xen-devel, you can also rip out the xc_num and related initialization and mode logic earlier in console.c. Thats an excellent idea, both patches can be submitted to xen-devel and get the maintainers to weigh in. I expect a merge of the two will be required.
