Hi Simon,

   Great, thanks for investigating.  Once com1 is set to 0x2f8, you
actually shouldn't even need to specify a console= for dom0.  This patch
will automatically set your preferred console to the xencons device:

Of course if you want to get the console mirrored on both VGA and
xencons as your previous cmdline did, you'll still need to specify both.
