Hi Anthony,

   Do we have any actual performance data to indicate whether enabling
this is a good thing?  If it is a good thing, should it be turned on by
default?  I'm a little reluctant to apply a patch for which the bulk of
the new functionality is #ifdef'd out and there's no description of when
or why we might want to enable it.  Thanks,
