I presume that the 'hdtype' field is effectively ignored? hdtype is not a field in the disk specification. It is a global config option specifying what kind of emulated controller to have. It affects all disks for which the code determines that an emulated disk should be provided, but does not affect pv-only disks. It defaults to `ide'.
