For me, the important detail is that this is basically an extension of the VMCx structures, and not part of any per-vcpu/per-p2m state: http://lists.xenproject.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2015-03/msg03272.html ISTR map_domain_page_global() slots being about as rare as xenheap pages, but I guess both of those have changed a fair amount.
