So my unscientific poll (more details below)

1. Download tarball: 80MB, 111s (<2m)

2. git clone --depth 1: 138MiB, 392s. (~6m30s)

I'd just go for the tarball, but I'll leave that decision up to you guys.

changes and commit them, and you can discard any commits you make in this
