[Xen-devel] Keeping PCI devices in low power states while bound to pciback module

Hi,

I successfully got a system with intel integrated gpu and an amd card running two domU with gpu passthrough up and running. Had a lot of trouble with dom0 hang on domU reboot but that was resolved by toggling power state of the gpu when all functions where owned by pciback.

I'm now trying to figure out if there could be drawbacks to keeping devices in as low low power states as possible for the duration of them being owned by pciback.Â

A device could be put i D3 state (if all other functions are owned by pciback) when we transfer ownership to pciback. The patches I tried (links sent by Konrad) toggled the power states. Is there a reason for not keeping the power state set to D3 and bringing it back to D0 immediately before assigning the function to a domU?
