I'm afraid Ian is right. You'll need to start by digging in and work
from there with specific questions etc. A good starting point would be
perhaps to setup a system using the existing stuff, using the wiki and
search engines etc.

I've been digging in for 8months (on and off) now and have re-written a host (pun) of registers and my progress has not been great. I am trying to take a big step back (an 8 month step) and really re-consider my approach and understand of the both the problem and the general workings at this level.

 

So really what I am asking for is a rapport with a developer that worked on XEN's Intel IGD code so that I may compare understandings and approach.

I am still looking to get in touch with a developer that is familiar with what I've talk about so far.

I am sorry that I have given some you the impression of 'ask first, shoot later'. because it is not the case. I've been working with this for some time and now I would really like to discuss with someone who knows more.

I've tried to avoid specific questions because it would require assumptions on my part. Regardless of that, here is a typical question in this topic that I would like to discuss as broadly as possible:

what registers from the PCH are required by intel's IGD / drivers?
