I think that given that the design of David's hasn't been finalised
and no code exists, it is clear that David's version won't make the
deadline for the 4.3 feature freeze.

So I think David's version has missed the boat for 4.3.  Since this
scalability problem is on our list as critical for 4.3, the conclusion
is that we should accept Wei's approach.
