I think that it is essential that we do not have a situation where the
default behaviour is ever to hang while it searches zillions of
combinations.  That would be a release critical bug IMO.

So I don't think "we will fix this after the series goes in" is
acceptable.  We should not be introducing new RC bugs during the
freeze.
