CONFIG_XEN_XENBUS_FRONTEND
gets reset to "m"

I suspect that if you checked the .config file, on both these last two you would have found that it contained CONFIG_XEN_XENBUS_FRONTEND=m, which is what I found when I tried it just now, which means that something is resetting the value.
