before i get the real mode emulation problem i used the whole time  the 3.2.1 version of xen and it worked very fine. then i switched to xen 3.3  version with ChangeSet: Wed Jul 23 18117:7299346111fb. i tried to boot already  the installed existing domain and then came the emulation error. It looks like  there is some incompatibility of the xen versions by switching from xen 3.2.1  to xen 3.3. I don't know what xen 3.2.1 exactly writes of the virtual hdd and  the what xen 3.3 reads from it, but like you said, the failure is very odd  .....I wonder whether perhaps changes in tools caused 3.3 to mis-detect your virtual hd type, and hence load the wrong data off the virtual hd. What disk type do you use (LVM? QCOW file? etc)thanks for the suggestion :)
