Consider a network-enabled stat-gathering, managing, or monitoring tool running on domU. It wants to uniquely identify itself to the peer. IP or MAC can work in some environments, but in others they're ephemeral. UUID would be much better. It's the only thing that known never to change, isn't it? Ok makes sense.
