I just went ahead and got the xen-2.0-testing tarball, and build the hypervisor and userspace utilities. After restarting, I tried starting the FreeBSD kernel inside a Xen domain; the result is currently the same. I'll check the BIOS settings and see if, perhaps, there's something relevant, but at this point, I'm still guessing it's something about this machine. I'm not sure what though.
