Did the domain 0 kernel detect an e100 when the machine booted? What does dmesg show? Are you sure you're booting the new kernel with the modified config? Look at the boot banner to check the time. Just to check this, add a printk("HELLO WORLD\n"); in the e100/e100_main.c:e100_init_module routine.
