[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] RE: [Xen-cim] How can I use xen-CIM?
Hi Gareth,
Thanks for the info.Actually i wanted to know if we can
manage the VBDs on DomU from the Dom0. And how can we discover the backing
storage on host system. Can we anyhow map these Xen-CIM model through
CLI?
I hope i am making sense.Actually i want to map these
Xen-CIM object through CLI for RHEL,as of now. This i guess will
definitely make a contribution to the Xen development because RHEL
distro for Xen-CIM is not targetted currently and these mappings may be a help
for the users.
And i will be more than happy to
volunteer :)
Thanks and regards

Can you be more specific as to what you mean by "storage management"? The Xen-CIM providers today allow you to add/remove vbds to/from a DomU config, and have some rudimentary methods to discover backing storage on the host system, but otherwise there's no detailed 'storage' instrumentation, like creating LUNs, etc. Please note the Xen-CIM providers are only intended to instrument the *virtualization* side of the story. To fully manage a virtualization environment you are probably going to want a suite of host-side CIM instrumentation to manage the actual physical resources on the host system, ie the backing resource which are then 'virtualized' to individual guests. There's a whole bunch of regular CIM providers out there, both Open Source and proprietary, for instrumenting regular host resource (processors, memory, SMIS storage, ...) that you can use to hook up to the Xen CIM providers to manage the host-side. I might suggest looking at the OMC project (http://developer.novell.com/wiki/index.php/OMC). Storage virtualization modelling is still a work-in-progress in the DMTF SVPC workgroup; once a clearer picture with MOFs and Profiles mature from this effort the Xen CIM providers will start implementing more detailed instrumentation for it. If you'd like to contribute to either effort, we're always looking for volunteers! :-) - Gareth Dr. Gareth S. Hi, Can anyone tell me that how can I use the Xen-CIM provider for my Storage management? Basically I want some guidelines to get the xen-CIM and use it for Managing the Storage.I know it’s still in development but I guess I can use it for testing. Otherwise, how can I do it (managing storage) through
CLI .I am using XenLinx. _______________________________________________ Xen-cim mailing list Xen-cim@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.xensource.com/xen-cim
