so... udev strikes again!  thanks all for the work in finding a work-around at
least.  udev was the first place i looked for issues, failed to check the
downgrade option however!  this will suffice for now.

thanks for this powerful open source software & good community to support it. 
and thanks a TON for the re-introduced pvopts kernels. 2.6.26 was getting
pretty dated.
