[Xen-bugs] [Bug 466] New: XEN 2.0.7: domU network locks up in low memory conditions

http://bugzilla.xensource.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=466

Summary: XEN 2.0.7: domU network locks up in low memory
                    conditions
           Product: Xen
           Version: 2.0
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: major
          Priority: P3
         Component: Hypervisor
        AssignedTo: xen-bugs@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
        ReportedBy: maiden1134@xxxxxxxxx

A domU's network will fail in low memory conditions where netfront is unable
to allocate more skbuffs (domU cannot receive network packets, transmit works
OK). This occurs usually with domU's that are setup with low amounts of memory
(around 32 MB in my case but this may happen depending on available memory and
the # of VIFs configured in the domU).

This is caused by a bug in the domU netfront driver. Upon failure to allocate
skbuffs, netfront does not flush all pending skbuffs onto the RX ring. As a
result netfront can never receive any new packets from this point onwards (as
the netback driver in dom0 drops all packets to the domU since there are no
available skbuffs on the RX ring).
