http://bugzilla.xensource.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=450 ------- Additional Comments From a_hartwig@xxxxxxxxxxx 2005-12-15 08:31 ------- I downloaded the xen-3.0-demo-livecd-3.0 CD image, burned it to a CD and successfully booted the Debian Etch kernel which proceeded to run a windowing system with one xterm open and another window title something like "Virtual Machine Status". I opened another xyerm and apparently successfully started a CentOS guest machine. When I gave the commend "shutdown -h now" on its console window everything froze up a bit later. I pressed the PC reset button and tried booting into CentOs this time at the Grub menu and this time the startup got as far as printing Detecting hardware Running discover... but after more than 5 minutes elapsed and there was no more output I pressed the reset button and booted the Debian Etch kernel. This time the kernel got as far as displaying Detecting hardware Running discover... input: ImPSW/2 Generic Wheel mouse on isa0060/serial1 and when there was no more output for more than 5 minutes I turned the machine off and disconnected from mains power for more than 30 minutes. I tried a number of times to boot the Debian Etch kernel and the CentOS kernel but every attempt stopped at either "Running discover..." or "input: ImPS/2 etc" I successfully booted the Knoppix 4.0.2 CD and KDE startup completed sucessfully and I played a couple of rounds of Solitare. A uname -a on this system reported kernel version 2.6.12. My attempts to boot the Gentoo 2005.1 Install x86 CD all failed regardless of whether I tried the gentoo kernel or gentoo-nofb kernel. The gentoo kernel stalled on reporting "Preparing the Live CD" and the gentoo-nofb kernel reported that it couldn't find a file system, there being no record of it successfully recognising the presence of the CDROM. Summary: -------- The xen test CD boots successfully and runs through a sequence of kernels on a dual PIII 800MHz system I also tried it on. The xen demo CD booted successfully only about 1 in 8 (or more) times I tried it on the Pentium D 820 system. Knoppix 4.0.2 boots successfully on the Pentium D 820 system. Gentoo 2005.1 x86 Install CD does NOT boot successfully on the Pentium D 820 system. I have yet to try the xen demo system on the dual PIII 800MHz system. (I'll report the outcome of that test later.) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.xensource.com/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. _______________________________________________ Xen-bugs mailing list Xen-bugs@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.xensource.com/xen-bugs
