Got it. I had given all available RAM to dom0 at startup, as I only start
additional domains ocasionally atm and I'm a bit short of RAM. After reducing
that by 64M the kernel booted fine, and playing back audio via the usb-soundcard
worked. I do wonder though why I had to take that memory away from the domain
that as I understand should in fact be using it.
