XM is XenMotion - and means that you can migrate a VM while it's running from one XCP host to another, utilising a shared Storage that both Hosts can access. SXM is StorageXenMotion and was introduced with XCP 1.6. It in fact can completely move a VM while it's running on one Host to another and also move the VDI to the Host where it will run locally. And yes, you can also move from a local SR to a shared SR and vice Versa. I don't think that XM and SXM can be used together from the XenCenter. AFAIK XenCenter only does XenMotion, and SXM in the Pool Shell. But it's easy, eg "xe vdi-pool-migrate uuid=<vdi-uuid> sr-uuid=<target-sr-uuid>". The performance is really impressive from what I have experienced... Actually, you can use XenCenter to do SXM. The SXM wizard will pop up when drag a host between pools, or between hosts without shared storage (or when the VM is not on shared storage). There is no explicit SXM option because we wanted it to just look like "migration". You can also explicitly tell XenCenter to do VDI.pool_migration, by clicking on the VDI in the SR's storage tab (it's a little confusing, I think). And I'm glad to hear you think the performance is good. We were worried that the performance might have been an issue for people, but it doesn't seem to be the case in practice. We are purchasing equipment soon and after reading on a forum that it didn’t work I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t true. Do you just use the XenCenter… Right click on the VM and click migrate to server? Also, Will I able to transfer a VM to physically separated storage repository? Example: Migrate VMs from an XCP host connected to a dell equal logic to an XCP host that is using local storage. What's your error? -Bastian Am 11.03.2013 15:58, schrieb Ryan Miller: I read on a forum that this feature was removed from XCP 1.6. Has anyone successfully done a live migration with XCP 1.6? If so, is there a good resource out there to guide a smooth migration? -Ryan _______________________________________________ Xen-api mailing list Xen-api@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:Xen-api@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> http://lists.xen.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/xen-api_______________________________________________ Xen-api mailing list Xen-api@xxxxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.xen.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/xen-api _______________________________________________ Xen-api mailing list Xen-api@xxxxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.xen.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/xen-api
