[Xen-API] Kronos and patched LVM?

Hi all,

I've been working through this issue:

SR_BACKEND_FAILURE_53: [ ; Logical Volume unmount/deactivate error
[opterr=errno is 3];  ]

when attempting to create an LVM backed SR on Kronos.
I've read in the list archives that LVM on XenServer and XCP is patched to use
xapi as the cluster lock manager.

Why?

DLM and CLVM are mature and work just fine. Why reinvent the wheel for no gain?
Just trying to understand as this design choice as this makes it very hard to
integrate Kronos with a working Debian cluster.

Thanks,

Dave
