Re: [Xen-API] Live migration without access to HVM guests

Hi, The live migration fails for all HVM linux machines (already tried with Centos 5.6 and ubuntu 11.04), seems a problem with hdd dma, on the console we can see that the domu loose the access to the hdd after migration. btw, on the same pool, a win 2008R2 domu can do live migration without problems.

I cant understand, whats the difference between HVM linux and HVM windows ? its not the same QEMU emulation ?

Any clue ?
Thanks

and dig to the maillist archive, there was bunch of threads about faking guest tools presence.

Hi people
we are evaluating to move to XCP (from a self-built Centos-XEN infrastructure) for our public cloud (ca 150 vms at the moment).

cannot use live migration for evacuation of servers, i read that XCP wants to have tool installed to do that, but we cant install anything on our HVM guests, because we dont have root access (much more... we dont know if a guest is a Linux or Windows or BSD....). Then we tried a small script that fakes tools installation but migration fails everytime.

I know the problem come from XAPi because with our running xen installation the live migration of hvm guests works flawlessly.

Any plan to make XCP usable in a public cloud environment ?
Thanks
