I found the problem: The VM has an event associated, that is fired on shutdown. 
The attribute is: actions_after_shutdown

This was set to destroy ;)

Why does a virtual machine disappear from the VM.get_all list when you
stop them by VM.hard_shutdown. But as long as it is in the halted state,
it should be still available.

The VM should only be removed from the system if you use the VM.destroy
command.
