Bruce,
Here are the notes from the Engineer who is doing the testing.
> oseleta (Dell machines hanging in BIOS during some reboots)
> -----------------------------------------------------------
>Â [ Email from Ian noted that problem is not easy to repro. ]
>Â ACTION: Ian to try to find better repro.
I have succeeded. The operating system setup currently installed on each of oseleta[01] can repro the problem. I can confirm, having produced one ad-hoc repro of the problem on each machine, that when the problem occurs the machine seems entirely hung.
Steps to repro (starting with machine powered off):
- Power the machine on
ÂÂÂÂÂ - wait for it to boot into the operating system
- Repeat these steps:
ÂÂÂÂÂ - ssh to it to instruct it to reboot, that is:
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ ssh root@oseleta0 reboot
ÂÂÂÂÂ - wait for the machine to boot into the operating system
FYI my ad-hoc repro took 7 boots of oseleta0 and 35 boots of oseleta1.
NB that the sample size is too small to conclude that this difference represents any real difference between the two machines. Based on these numbers my very rough best guess of failure probability is around 5% (if both machines are the same).
So it is not really practical to reproduce this problem by hand, because it can easily take dozens of trials.

Hello Paul,
I finally heard back from the engineer.
He is now asking about the power being turned off on the PDU ports
and is asking how long the power is off before the system is powered back up?
Thank you
